Explore “The Paradise Of The Photographer” In China
Located in the southwestern part of China, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (Xingjiang for short) is the largest province in China, accounting for the one-sixth land of China. It borders eight countries including Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Pakistan, Mongolia, India, and Afghanistan. There are 47 minorities living here. Its history can date back to B.C. 60. This series of article is going to list 6 places you must visit when you come to Xingjiang, started with Kanas.
Located in the northern part of Xinjiang, Kanas is a tourist attraction consisting of the glacier, lake, forest, prairie, river, folk customs, and rare animals and plants. It is well known as “the Chinese Switzerland” and “the Paradise of the Photographer”. Kanas is Mongol, meaning beautiful, abundant and mysterious. The serenity of the lake echoes with the magnificence of the glacier; the vast prairie borders the mysterious forest.
At Kanas, apart from the Kanas Lake, which is the main spot, there are also Hemu Village and Baihaba Village. The Kanas lake has been listed as “the most beautiful lake in China” by the magazine Chinese National Geography since the year 2009. One of the special spots in the Kanas Lake is an area that can change colors throughout the year. In May, when the ice is melting, the water is gray. In terms of June, the water appears to be either light green or dark blue since the surface is reflecting the surrounded green plants. Due to the water provision from the White Lake located in the upstream, the water of this area would be white in July. In August, the water would be dark due to the increase of the rain. Since September, the water would go back to either light green or dark blue as a result of the decrease in the water provision.
In the north of the lake, there is Kuytun mountain capped with heavy snow. The lake is surrounded by layers upon layers of plants. In the autumn, the forest would shimmer scarlet, gold and dark green under the sunshine. When the water is still, the surface would look like the emerald.
There is an independent airport for Kanas; it only took 50 minutes to fly from Urumchi to Kanas. There are not train stations at Kanas; if you would like to take the train, you can take the train from Urumchi to Beitun, and change to the bus. There are many vehicles within Kanas including shuttle bus, horses, and horse sledding (in the winter).
It is recommended to visit Kanas in June and September. Kanas is most famous for its Flower Sea in June and Gold Autumn in September. There is also a winter travel package (From 10th October to 10th May) in which you could enjoy the horse sledding.
